I wonder if this also means they have finally sorted out the way he hands out Zaishen Keys. Its rather annoying to have to hit "Give me a Key" over and over when there could be an option to be given them in a bundle.

Things do pop up that impact scheduling, and as hard as the team works, sometimes even working overtime is not enough to release on schedule. There are also only so many hours in a day, and for the good of the game sometimes a build has to be delayed.
The Live Team has been working evenings and weekends for a long time now. They have been working 7 days a week. Linsey has even stayed at the office overnight on several occasions, pulling more all nighters on this than any other project she's been involved with. She hasn't had a day off in a long while.
I hope this gives you a better understanding.

You guys are awesome, all respect for the passion you put into this!
(even though some comments here make it seem as if it isn't worth it - they don't mean it, just spoiled anxious kids that want their new toy right now!)
HUGE THANKS

Couldnt agree more with this.
Coming off the back of four 12 hour days myself i know just how stressful they are, you are all doing an excellent job! In 3 years of playing GW ive never had a bad thing to say about the game or any ANET employee.
I just hope any posts like this and others like it, will take the focus away from some of the other childish people who dont appreciate just how much work ye are doing.
Good luck on the feedback from this update, im sure it will get a mixed reception. (as all major updates do)

The devs (especially Linsey) must really enjoy their job to be working so hard. It must be a bad feeling to see lots of negative comments about a new update after working so hard on it.
Props to Linsey and the few other devs who are actually still working on GW1.

Heck i wouldn't mind getting the update until next week as long as they release the update notes. Personally I'm mostly curious on what changes are being made so i can make plans accordily. Depends on what changes are made will determine if i'll grind to 35 max titles, or keep trying to get my r8 hero statue.
I think alot of people are more interest is knowing the changes than actually the changes.

I'm female, and a flaming feminist - more than enough to reject the supposition that gender (let alone "institutionalization") has anything to do with the root problem here. Is life fair? Let me check my fair-o-meter... nope, life's still not fair. Do we all get the things we want? Nope we sure don't. Are we entitled to a job that loves us like we love it? Nope we're not. Are some careers still crap? Yep they are. Do we have choices about whether we go into those careers? Yep we sure do. Are they all good and fair choices? Nope they aren't. Do we have to make them anyway? Yep we sure do. Should and would build no bridges.
Feminism is fundamentally about equality. The standard "game design" career isn't treating women any worse than it's treating men - it's treating them both equally poorly. Both men and women employees with families suffer in this industry (and in countless other industries - dare I say - the vast majority of lucrative ones where the competition is fierce and the pool of people willing to put in crazy long hours to get their feet in the door is very, very deep). But it's a voluntary at-will employment contract they can sever at any time nevertheless. Staying is a choice just like quitting is a choice. Neither one may be a great choice, but that's life. We all make sacrifices for our dream careers and our families, regardless of our gender. I'm not saying GTFO. I'm saying Get Over It. Welcome to life. Help change it or get out of the way.
By the way, ironically: G(ing)TFO *is* one of the better non-forcible ways to change it. If everyone G(ot)TFO of crap companies, or bargained jointly, those companies would change their ways or risk losing their qualified employees.

Let me give you an example.
|
First, I was talking purely about the case of the meeting that was the reason behind Regina's post about the English Speaking Community being rude. On a daily basis, only those who natrually speak English actually speak English, unless they have a reason to speak English.

Well, I happened to be in Lions Arch the first hour for trading, and I noticed two things. First off, I cannot recall any rude thing a European said, of any language. They were nice, cordial, and all smiles. Americans on the other hand, were often typing in AOL-speak, often in caps, very disparaging things, profanities, statements like "GFTO Euro Trash" and such, and other things I won't post because of this forum's annoying Go Red ENgine censoring system.
So I head to Europe district to say hello. Once again, most of the people in the Euro English district were nice. The Americans, were speaking of how this is the first step of America's conquest of Europe, among other things. There were a few Brits and others getting ugly at this point, but it pretty much all backlashing against the Americans who suddenly filled their districts and starting non-stop BS.
So When I say something that sounds like a stereotype or broad generalization, I say it from repeated first-hand experience, not from moronic preconceptions.
|
I remember that day well, I moved over the European districts right away to say hello to my European brothers and sisters in humanity. Right away, I saw Americans acting like idiots. And I saw some Europeans act like jerks in the American districts when I went back. On several accounts I went to European districts because of the rudeness of the American districts. And many of those times, I was insulted in European districts - along with all Americans being insulted this way - for "not spelling the correct, English, way."
Are Americans rude? Yes. Are all Americans rude? No. Are there some non-Americans who speak English that are rude? Yes. And that was my point.

Honestly, many of the comments I read in this thread, especially around page 6, are as disturbing as they are disgusting. Really, the posters should be embaressed for their behavior. I'm embaressed for them and found them humiliating to read even though I'm in no way involved.
One poster had it right, software development is not an assembly line and anyone who doesn't understand that is someone who simply doesn't understand product/software development. The fact that someone pulled all nighters is tough, it happens, but for that person to be ridiculed for it?
If this is the way that the player community treats the developer when the developer is trying to fulfill community requests, then perhaps aNet should reconsider releasing this update. Perhaps instead hang a big "Pbbttthh!" sign on our login screens.
I'm shocked that the Guru would allow much of what has been said to remain posted.

I agree but at least there is plenty of people (more than those on guru I'm sure) who apperciates the efforts of the dev team
And yes, most here from what I have read DON'T understand anything about the development process, nor time schedules or anything else like that, (this may or may not be true but it seems it from the majority of the posts)

As just a heads up, once the update is released I will be closing this thread so that discussion can happen in a single thread and not be spread out. Just an FYI.
